When is the best time to visit Vietnam?

I’ve been asked this question multiple times and over the years I’ve finally developed an answer that I feel comfortable giving you here. Vietnam is a country with 2000+ mile coastline, the climate tends to vary considerably from place to place. No matter what season of year, there is always a place in Vietnam that is worth visiting. Following typical weather of the country, I will separate Vietnam as some famous destination: Far North Mountains, Hanoi, Halong Bay, Central Vietnam and South Vietnam.

Far North Mountains

Sapa, Ha Giang, Bac Ha, Mu Cang Chai…but Sapa is the most popular destination for travelers in Vietnam. The best time to visit Far North Mountains in Vietnam is from the September to October when weather is constant, it’s light sunshine at daytime and dry cool at night normally. The harvest season of terrace fields is around in September, you can enjoy the magnificent landscape and the fresh air of the autumn. Spring is also nice season to travel, it is from March to May. During spring time, rice is planted and the terraces are flooded with water and sky is reflected in the valley like a mirror. The spring is also the blossom time of many flowers.

Hanoi

Hanoi is a year-round destination in Vietnam but fall is considered the most beautiful time for travelers to visit Hanoi. This season is typically from September to the end of November, the weather is cool with sunlight and breeze. Spring is from February to April with average temperature around 20 Celsius degree, it’s the best time to enjoy tropical nature with blossom flowers and beautiful plants. Summer in is hot with the average temperature of 32 Celsius degree and the heavy rain but it brings the unique experiences for travelers to enjoy dynamic typical life of Vietnam. Finally, the winter is from December to late February, the weather is cold but dry Hanoi will serve you many delicious Vietnam dishes to make your day up in winter time.

The Central of Vietnam

The best time to visit the central of Vietnam is from February to August with hot and dry weather, temperatures is around 30 Celsius degrees. You can enjoy many beaches with clear water, white sand here. During the winter months from October and November, it is rainy season and occasionally typhoons hit.

The South of Vietnam

The South Vietnam is a year round destination with remaining temperature, it is around 25 to 35 Celsius degrees. The weather of the south is simple with wet season and dry season but the rainfall is short lasting, often mid-afternoon pour down. You can enjoy many activities and destination under the sunlight here and feel the colorful lifestyle of people in South Vietnam.

Tet Festival is a special occasion in Vietnam which falls in late January or early February. During this time, Vietnamese takes vacations or visit home that makes transport and accommodation are full and prices rise.
